Brother Jimmy's BBQ

Posted on 22:39 by suresh kumar

"Don't break my heart..my achy breaky heart..."  I find myself humming the Billy Ray Cyrus tune after a visit to Brother Jimmy's BBQ in Mary Brickell Village, located at 900 S. Miami Avenue, Suite 135. This BBQ haven is part of the national chain originally established to bring "down-home" cooking to the North East and first opening its doors in the New York area. In the 20+ years it has been around, Brother Jimmy's has grown from a simple BBQ hangout for homesick alums, to a refined brand that personifies its slogan of "Put Some South in Yo' Mouth".

The Mary Brickell Village locale, owned by former Canes and current NFL players DJ Williams, Jon Beason and Jonathan Vilma, along with ex sports reporter turned businessman Ron Berkowitz, has been open since the summer. Aside from its food, colorful cocktails, and extensive Bourbon selection, it also brings some Wild West fun to the Brickell area. It's all about strapping on the boots, pulling up the Daisy Dukes and moseying down to "Texas Tuesdays at the Best Little Honky Tonk in Miami." Every Tuesday night at 8 p.m., Brother Jimmy's serves up some country fun with their Line Dancing Lessons, Two-For-One drinks, southern barbeque and Miami's Top Country DJ, DJ Risi.

Popcorn Shrimp
Buffalo Trace Bourbon
You can start off the night with my favorite, their Popcorn Shrimp with Cajun Mayo. The crispy shrimp have a delicious, spicy kick to them that brings you back to the cajun city, while the tasty dipping sauce just completes the Yee Haw moment. Wash it down with some Buffalo Trace Bourbon and you're ready to start dancing like a cowboy.

Swamp Water
Palmetto Punch
Of course if you prefer cocktails, Brother Jimmy's has a variety of potent drinks that will have you doing the Texas-Two Step in no time. For instance, there's the Swamp Water; Brother Jimmy's legendary vodka-based concoction, served in a 64oz fishbowl, and totally unchanged for 20 years. Or you can go for the Palmetto Punch, a tropical inspired Carolina Rum Runner Containing Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and Malibu, along with pineapple juice and grenadine.

Signature Brother Jimmy's BBQ Sauces

Country Fried Steak With Gravy
Jimmy's  Pig Pick
Once all the exercise drives up the appetite, you can try their Country Fried Steak with Gravy; top round steak, tenderized and dredged in their seasoned flour, fried until crisp and tender, and topped with gravy. The dish comes served with a choice of side and a sweet, warm corn bread. If you're looking to sample a variety of meat, you can lasso Jimmy's Pig Pick, where you can choose from four favorites including their wet ribs or southern ribs, pulled pork (my top pick), brisket, and BBQ or pulled chicken. Try one of their signature barbecue sauces for some extra fun. The platter comes served with hush puppies and cole slaw.

Carolina Cooler
The Charleston A.P.
All this meat and Boot Scootin' Boogie will make you thirsty again. That's all-right because that will be your excuse to try some more of Brother Jimmy's enticing cocktails. How about a Carolina Cooler; a delicious blend of Vodka, fresh lemonade, Blue Curacao and muddled lemons? Perhaps you'd prefer The Charleston A.P., a South Carolina Sweet Tea, with infused Vodka, fresh lemonade and a splash of soda. It really doesn't matter which one you're in the mood for. By the time you leave Texas Tuesday, you'll be a seasoned cowboy (or cowgirl, in my case). By the way, they also offer a Ladies Night every Monday-Wednesday, where ladies drink Draft Beer & Frozen Margaritas for free, and every Friday they do a Free Pig Roast outside of the restaurant from 4-7 pm. Yahoo! Don't be surprised if someone whispers on your way out, "Ya'll come back now, ya hear?"
