"Don't break my heart..my achy breaky heart..." I find myself humming the Billy Ray Cyrus tune after a visit to Brother Jimmy's BBQ in Mary Brickell Village, located at 900 S. Miami Avenue, Suite 135. This BBQ haven is part of the national chain originally established to bring "down-home" cooking to the North East and first opening its doors in the New York area. In the 20+ years it has been around, Brother Jimmy's has grown from a simple BBQ hangout for homesick alums, to a refined brand that personifies its slogan of "Put Some South in Yo' Mouth".
The Mary Brickell Village locale, owned by former Canes and current NFL players DJ Williams, Jon Beason and Jonathan Vilma, along with ex sports reporter turned businessman Ron Berkowitz, has been open since the summer. Aside from its food, colorful cocktails, and extensive Bourbon selection, it also brings some Wild West fun to the Brickell area. It's all about strapping on the boots, pulling up the Daisy Dukes and moseying down to "Texas Tuesdays at the Best Little Honky Tonk in Miami." Every Tuesday night at 8 p.m., Brother Jimmy's serves up some country fun with their Line Dancing Lessons, Two-For-One drinks, southern barbeque and Miami's Top Country DJ, DJ Risi.
